    Ni identidad ni moda: «Simplemente porque me gusta» Thays Adrián Segovia “Los jóvenes no hablan ni mejor ni peor, usan un registro diferente [porque] viven un contexto diferente”. ¿Unos hablan bien y otros lo hacen mal? Los lingüistas atienden al principio de que «en el lenguaje no hay bien ni mal en términos propios, sino solo en tanto en cuanto convenciones sociales tan justificables o injustificables como cualesquiera otras» (Bernárdez, 2008). La manera en que los jóvenes se comunican suele relacionarse con la adscripción a un grupo, con el deseo de ser diferentes o con la moda. Sin embargo, cuando a treintaiún de ellos, entre diecisiete y veintiocho años se les preguntó por qué usaban palabras del Diccionario del Gen Z venezolano[1] la respuesta dominante fue «simplemente porque me gusta». En las líneas que siguen, luego de recordar que las lenguas cambian y de una explicación sobre el sociolecto juvenil, analizaremos algunas características del léxico centennial o gen Z. Linguists follow the principle that “there is no right or wrong in language as it is, but only insofar as social conventions are as justifiable or unjustifiable as any other” (Bernárdez, 2008). The way in which young people communicate is often related to group ascription, to fashion, or to a desire to be different. However, when 31 young adults, between 17 and 28 years old, were asked why they used words from Diccionario del Gen Z venezolano [1] [The Venezuelan Gen Z Dictionary], the dominant answer was “just because I like it.” We will explain the sociolect of the youth and then, analyze some characteristics of the lexicon used by Centennials or Gen Z —taking into account that languages change.
